It's somewhat hard to Imagine that this time next week I will already be in Tokyo, ploughing through my orientation. I've finished packing and my visa is all ready to go. We're flying Quantas with 30kg limits, but AFS rules are only 20kg. So far I have about 15kg, including clothes, presents, toiletries, bags, etc. but I haven't started with carry on, which will include my clothing for the first 3 days, a towel and my camera gear.
So my plane leaves Adelaide, for Sydney at 5.15 pm, it's a two hour flight, then a three hour wait for my flight to Tokyo! During those three hours I will meet all the other Australian participants, so we will all fly together! the flight is 10 hours so we arrive at 6.20am in Tokyo! During the day all the other AFS students from all over the world will be arriving - so I cannot wait to meet everybody before we break off into our separate orientations.
So for presents I couldn't really think of what to get anyone, we were told not to spend too much because it puts pressure on the receivers, so I finally decided on an Opal key ring each, Australian pens, and pencil cases for my host siblings, and Australian coffee cups, and coasters for my host parents. I also bought a bunch of Australian and western (that they don't have in Japan) junk food for my host family to share. I bought a couple packets of tim tams in weird flavours, clinckers, fruchocs, and a couple of other sweets. Hopefully they will like it!!
I've had my bracers taken off, and I've had my last hair cut in preperation!
It hasn't seemed to set in that I will be gone for 11 months yet, and I don't think It will until I have been there for at least a few weeks. I will meet my host family on the 22nd of March, which I am looking forward to! I have been emailing my host sister quite often, and they're great people, so I think I am going to have an awesome time!
I will try to update soon with photo's and information about my Orientation! See you then!
